Crossings such as the Septimer pass (2310 m above sea level) were extremely important trade routes as early as Roman times and during the Middle Ages. After a varied climb to the top of the pass, you then ride down a technically challenging trail to the Bregaglia valley. You then continue along the pass road with its many serpentine bends from Casaccia up to the Maloja pass. The route finally leads through the idyllic Upper Engadine lakelands to St Moritz.
