Brugg–Habsburg (Habsburg Castle)–Scherz route
Brugg–Habsburg–Scherz
The Brugg-Habsburg-Scherz route leads from Brugg to Scherz, via the villages of Windisch and Habsburg. Immerse yourself in the impressive history of the Habsburg dynasty.
Habsburg Castle sits atop the Wülpelsberg, offering views over the Aare Valley, the Schenkenberg Valley and into the Eigenamt region. Other castles such as Brunegg and Wildenstein are also visible. Enjoy the magnificent views across to the Alpine landscapes of Berne and St. Gallen. And not to be forgotten is the Black Forest to the north and the surrounding range of hills, the Jura.
Another attraction is the Königsfelden Convent Church in Windisch. It lies amidst the Roman ruins of Vindonissa and not far from the Habsburg family's original fortress. As a building commemorating the Habsburgs, it is an important piece of family historyof the House of Habsburg. The foundation of the convent was prompted by the murder of King Albrecht I. near the river Reuss crossing in Windisch. The windows of the convent church are particularly worth seeing.
Continue your journey on foot or by postbus to Habsburg Castle – the family seat of a world power.
