Get to know the Appenzell sense of humour. Let yourself be carried away by the wonderful landscape of the Appenzell region, with a breathtaking view of Lake Constance and beyond to southern Germany, of the Rhine delta and the Bay of Bregenz. There are around 80 joke panels inviting you to linger and chuckle. For smaller hiking fans, we have a special adventure rucksack, guaranteeing an exciting hike.
Voyage of discovery by Postbus, mountain railway and boat
Take in the breathtaking views of the Appenzeller Vorderland region on a round trip by Postbus, mountain railway and boat: Heiden to Walzenhausen by Postbus, mountain railway to Rheineck, continue by boat to Rorschach and return on the Rorschach-Heiden mountain railway.
Attractions and information
- Joke trail Heiden-Wolfhalden-Walzenhausen (8.5 km, approx. 3 hours)
- Three well-constructed campfire areas invite you for a barbecue
- The adventure rucksack for an exciting hike including a quiz, something to make and something sweet is available for CHF 15.00 from Appenzellerland Tourism in Heiden and from Swiss Dreams Hotel in Walzenhausen.
- Boat season: daily between 1 May and 18 September 2011
- Tour of the Biedermeier village of Heiden with a climb up to the viewing terrace of the 40-metre-high church tower with its 360° panoramic views (church tower open daily between May and September from 1 p.m. to 3.30 p.m.)
- The starting point for the opposite direction of the joke trail is Walzenhausen station
- Journey by Postbus to Heiden: from St Gallen station (routes 120 and 121), from Rheineck (route 222), from St Margrethen (routes 224/225), from Heerbrugg (route 226).
