Flüelen on Lake Lucerne

Enjoy the journey across Lake Lucerne to Flüelen aboard the romantic paddle steamer “Uri”. As you leave the rolling hills dominated by farmland behind you, the first impressive peaks come into view: Rigi and Fronalpstock.

Flüelen–Klausen Pass

At Flüelen a Postbus to Linthal will be waiting for you. Those with a special interest in history should visit the fascinating William Tell Museum in Bürglen (canton of Uri). There you will learn more about Switzerland’s history and its national hero William Tell. From Bürglen the journey continues through Unterschächen, from where the road winds up along the northern slope of the Schächental. On the way you will pass the “Zytstei”, a rock supposedly painted by an Italian road worker at the time when the pass road was widened for stagecoaches. At the Hotel Restaurant Klausenpass (bus stop: Balm), a break for refreshments is highly recommended. For the ultimate Alpine experience, you can of course also stay overnight and enjoy the unforgettable atmosphere from dusk to dawn.

Klausen–Urnerboden–Linthal

Just above the restaurant is the highest point on the Klausen Pass road: 1,948 metres above sea-level. After negotiating almost 100 bends on the way down towards Linthal, you will reach the Urnerboden plateau. Enjoy the view of the impressive Clariden massif before descending the hairpin bends to Linthal.
