Horgen station
As a residential and business community, Horgen expects a high quality of life. Owing to the zoned building land there, it also expects to see substantial building development and a growing population of up to 20,000. By implementing a forward-looking transport policy, the community aims to keep pace with this development in order to ensure high-quality growth. Its objectives include safeguarding reasonable mobility requirements, maintaining and improving the area’s high quality of life, increasing road safety for all traffic users and pedestrians, as well as promoting and extending the public transport services.
The refurbishment of the station area demonstrates the exemplary implementation and achievement of these goals. Seestrasse, which has been transformed from a traffic channel into a pedestrian-friendly, green through-road with a roundabout, and the Bahnhofstrasse meeting zone ensure safety and convenience for all traffic users and pedestrians.
The covered bus station, which has a direct link to Seestrasse via a roundabout, offers passengers fast and easy connections to the S-Bahn and buses, and helps to promote public transport and alternative modes of transport with its parking spaces for bicycles and mopeds. Along with the new pedestrian-friendly connections linking the different levels of the station via steps, a walkway and disabled lifts, the projects completed in 2009 help to maintain and boost the quality of life in the centre of Horgen.
The late-night transport services have also benefitted from the refurbishment of the station area. Changing from the late-night S-Bahn to the night bus, which departs every hour, takes just a few minutes. Short, well-lit routes, a passenger information system, spacious and transparent parking facilities, optimum lighting, as well as services at the hub, ensure that passengers enjoy a sense of security when using late-night transport.
