Biking your way through Switzerland

Important for you to know: On some PostBus routes, taking a bicycle requires a reservation. The Day Card for bikes and the annual bike pass (GA) from SBB and other transport providers are valid for the entire PostBus network. Passengers do not need to purchase an additional ticket for their bike on the Postbus.

Please pay special attention to this symbol in the official timetable;
symbol: Velo, vélos, biciclette, Bicycleit means that you need to reserve available space in order to bring your bicycle with you. 

During the summer season, postbuses are equipped with practical bicycle racks at the rear of the vehicle, except for minibuses and vehicles operating in urban areas. There is no guarantee of transportation.

Space for bicycle transportation is limited and reservations are required on the following routes across the mountain passes of the Central Alps. Reservations for bicycles are accepted no later than 16.00 hrs. on the day before travel. As a general rule, we recommend that reservations are made 48 hours prior to departure.

Ticino Region

Bicycle carry-on – Ticino Region

Reservations and information:

Valid on all routes on the official timetable, with the exception of those where “no bicycle transportation” is indicated and on routes in Bellinzona and the surrounding area, where the transportation of bicycles is not permitted.

Bicycles can be carried providing there is sufficient space available and you do not obstruct the other passengers. There is no guarantee of transportation.

Wallis Region

Brig branch

Reservations and information:

On the routes Brig-Simplon Pass, Visp-Moosalp, Brig-Visp-Saas-Fee, Goppenstein-Fafleralp - as well as certain stretches on the routes Ulrichen-Nufenen, Oberwald-Grimsel and Oberwald-Furka. PostBus utilizes bike trailers with a transport capacity of up to 20 bikes. On most other routes, the postbuses can transport up to 5 bikes.

It is not possible to make reservations on the Visp-Visperterminen route.

During the summer season, Postbuses are equipped with a special trailer offering space for up to 20 bikes on the following routes:

Valais region

  • daily at 9.18 h from Brig direction Simplon Pass
  • daily at 9.10 h from Visp direction Moosalp
  • daily at 8.45 h from Brig / 9.12 h from Visp direction Saas-Fee (10 June to 15 October)
  • daily at 9.45 h from Brig / 10.12 h from Visp direction Saas-Fee (10 June to 15 October)

Central Alps region (make a reservation at Bern region)

Limited bicycle transportation. Reservations are recommended. Large trailers for groups available on request.

For the following routes in Val d'Anniviers and Vercorin (12.441, 12.451, 12.452, 12.453, 12.454, 12.455):

Specially provided bike trailers are available with space for up to 20 bikes. A reservation is nevertheless strongly recommended given the large number of bicycles transported on these routes. Reservations can be made online at www.ts-ar.ch/bike.

Western Switzerland Region

For the transportation of bicycles in the cantons of Vaud, Fribourg, Neuchâtel and Jura as well as in the Bernese Jura, we recommend that you always reserve your seats. The buses are not automatically equipped with bike racks.

Limited space available, reservations required. Bicycles can be transported during off-peak hours as long as there is enough space available.

Central Alps

The Central Alps, with the Gotthard, Nufenen, Furka, Grimsel and Susten passes form part of the Bernese Oberland Region. Reservations required.
