Solothurn–Günsberg–Oberbalmberg (Route 40.012)
The Balmberg Route starts out in Solothurn at the foot of the Jura mountains and takes you up to the ridge of Balmberg offering beautiful panoramic views.
From Solothurn the Balmberg Route follows the southern slope of the Jura mountains up to Balmberg which offers spectacular views of the Mittelland region. Solothurn’s incomparable baroque old town welcomes you to stroll past richly adorned fountains, spires and churches. The Cathedral of St. Ursus with its magnificent outer staircase is a particularly impressive sight (PostBus stop Solothurn, Baseltor). In addition to the annual Film and Literature Festival, Solothurn’s cultural landscape also includes numerous museums. Waldegg Castle and nearby Verena Gorge are well worth a visit (PostBus stop Feldbrunnen, Station). The Balmberg recreational area offers a wide range of leisure activities and magnificent views of the Aare Valley and the Alps (PostBus stop Oberbalmberg, Kurhaus). No doubt observant passengers will soon discover the ruins of an old castle in Balmfluh’s wall of rock. (Stop Balm b. Günsberg, Post). The impressive hike from Weissenstein via Oberbalmberg and down to the Balsthal valley is part of the Jura Höhenweg (ridgeway) – and the small Oberbalmberg skiing area vouches family fun in the snow for all. (PostBus stop Oberbalmberg, Kurhaus).
