Brig–Naters–Blatten near Naters
On the Belalp Route you travel from Brig to Blatten near Naters, a typical village of the Valais region. From there a gondola takes you up to the beautiful Belalp hiking and skiing area.
From Brig, the Belalp-Line takes you to Blatten bei Naters, where you can take a cable car ride up to the remarkable Belalp. However, before hitting the heights, a tour of Brig’s Old Town and the imposing Stockalper Castle with its three Kaspar, Melchior and Balthasar towers is well worth the time. Those wishing to see the sights and explore in a more leisurely way take the «Kleiner Simplon Express» train – but don’t miss out Saturdays in summer on a visit to the Swiss Guards museum (above Naters) during the scenic round trip. Discover the old Naters village centre and 600-year-old linden tree (PostBus stop Naters, Marktplatz) – along with quaint stone roofs that help shape the picturesque Blatten bei Naters surroundings. Cable cars are the key to reaching the traffic-free Belalp, where spectacular views of the Aletsch Glacier and ancient Aletsch forest (PostBus stop Blatten b. Naters, Post) await you. And of course in winter you can enjoy a thrilling sled ride from Belalp to Blatten – as well as revel in Switzerland’s craziest folks’ mass decent from the Belalp each January, the Belalp witch.
