The Castles of Bellinzona, a symbol of the canton of Ticino, dominate its capital. Enjoy splendid panoramic views of the area as you visit them.
Montebello, Sasso Corbaro and Castelgrande: these are the names of the three Castles of Bellinzona, which were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000. Travel in comfort to discover these regional treasures. Simply take the “Bellinzona Stazione – Artore – Cast. Sasso Corbaro” line at Bellinzona station. The highest castle, Sasso Corbaro, awaits you at the terminus (“Bellinzona, Cast. Sasso Corbaro” stop). This fortress is an excellent example of the sforzesco style of the period. It offers a splendid view of the whole Bellinzona area. Last but not least, Sasso Corbaro castle also houses a restaurant which serves excellent specialities. Continue your trip either on foot through the vineyards or comfortably by Postbus as far as the “Bellinzona, Cast. Montebello” stop. This is where the middle castle is located, together with a museum which retraces its historic and archaeological heritage. For a perfect end to the day, walk back down to the town and head towards Piazza Collegiata before reaching the majestic Castelgrande castle. This is the largest and most imposing of the three, with its breathtakingly elegant towers and antique fortified walls.
