The Nufenen–Furka–Gotthard Pass route starts at the Airolo railway station and takes you on a one-day journey across three mountain passes.

At the top of the Nufenen Pass you have enough time to enjoy the fantastic views with leisure (PostBus stop Nufenen Pass). At an altitude of 2478 meters it is the highest road across the Swiss Alps.

The trip continues through Valais and along the Furka pass road passing the Rhone Glacier.

The views of the Gotthard mountain range and the Urseren Valley from the top of the Furka Pass are breathtaking.

You reach the Gotthard, known as the “King of Passes”, via an impressive mountain road offering views of the historic route (Postbus stop: Gotthard Pass).

Discover the world of Sasso San Gottardo at the top of the pass, home to the historic Gotthard fortress and a piece of history way ahead of its time. Discover the myth of Gotthard! Located deep inside the mountain, this Swiss army artillery fortress was top secret until just a few years ago. Once an impenetrable fortress that entered the history books as the National Redoubt, the site is now home to an unforgettable world exploring sustainability and the myth of Switzerland. Make your way down into the historic fortress on the underground ‘Metro del Sasso’. Experience history up close in the gun chambers, munitions magazines and dormitory spaces located deep inside the rock. A tunnel then takes you out into the open, from where you can enjoy a view of the magical mountain landscape from a surprising perspective.

The Gotthard region also offers hiking trails with outstanding views, such as a section of the Four Springs Trail.
