The Wolf Gorge is a cantonal nature reserve. On this four-hour hike, the path is flanked by high, partially overhanging walls of rock as it leads up through the narrow, wildly romantic gorge with its caves and wash-outs.
On this hike, you will experience the many different faces of Thal Nature Park. Your route begins with an ascent through the beautiful and wildly romantic Wolf Gorge and continues at the lofty heights of the second Jura mountain chain.
The hike begins 100 metres below the PostBus stop Wolf Gorge (request stop). Wolf Gorge is a cantonal nature reserve and demonstrates the mighty force of nature. The path is flanked by high, partially overhanging walls of rock as it leads up through the narrow, wildly romantic gorge with its caves and wash-outs.
After the initial climb, the path leads out of Wolf Gorge and through a narrow passageway. Your route continues across beautiful Jura meadows via Tannmatt to Mieschegg and on to Hinter Brandberg. Take time to enjoy the stunning views over to the other side of the valley where one of Switzerland's largest connected woodlands is to be found. The subsequent descent takes you through the middle of a lynx-inhabited area into the valley and to Welschenrohr.
On Sundays and public holidays between 1 May and 1 November, the return journey from Tannmatt to Balsthal can also be undertaken by NaturparkBus.
