See the Locarno region from another angle. Climb the Gambarogno mountains and enjoy a breathtaking view of the entire bay as you follow the easy paths between mountains, pastures and meadows.
While the magnificent riviera of Gambarogno is known internationally, this region’s splendid mountains are just as much worth to be remembered. A comfortable network of paths connects the mountains of Vairano, Gerra, Sant'Abbondio and Caviano. These natural gems are easily accessible by postbus from Magadino. Get off at the stop "Monti di Fossano, Bivio Piazzogna" and start your excursion. It takes about half an hour's walk to reach the first mountain, that of Vairano. The hike continues towards the other mountains on an easy path, and along the way there are exceptional panoramic views of Lake Maggiore and the surrounding Alps. The view of the Ghiridone mountain range above Brissago with its crests is also magnificent. Finally, you reach the Caviano and Sant'Abbondio mountains, also known as Centocampi, famous for their thatched farmhouses, the only ones in Ticino. Following the steep path in the direction of Scaiano and Dirinella, the hiking tour is completed in about three hours. The PostBus stop "Dirinella, Bivio per Caviano" for the return journey is located along the cantonal road.
