From Köniz to Riggisberg
Take a day trip to the beautiful Gantrisch region and the area around Längenberg. Ride the Längenberg Route from Köniz across Längenberg to Riggisberg past countless fields and meadows and spend a few relaxing hours in the Gantrisch Nature Park.
From Köniz, a suburb of Bern, the Längenberg Route takes you through fields and meadows and farming villages to Riggisberg. Be sure to stop and visit the various historical buildings of the Köniz Castle complex.
The trip continues along the ridge of Längenberg mountain to Niedermuhlern. The Farmer’s Trail, which starts in this small rustic village, provides a lot of interesting facts about agriculture. The high trail from Niedermuhlern to Riggisberg and the great views it offers should not be missed. On the way you will pass several viewpoints: Bütschelegg, the Tavel Memorial and Hasli, all with marvelous views of the Emmental hills, the Lake Thun area, the Stockhorn-Gantrisch mountain range, and the Bernese Alps.
In Rüeggisberg you will come across the impressive ruins of a former priory, an important station on the Way of St. James. Cultural open-air events, such as plays, concerts and exhibits, are regularly arranged there. Riggisberg is the starting point for a variety of excursions to the Gantrisch nature park and the Schwarzenburgerland region. Riggisberg Castle and the Abegg Foundation, where woven fabrics from different eras are on exhibit, make the village a cultural highlight.
