The Gürbetaler Höhenweg (Gürbe Valley high-altitude trail) offers more than just great walking – it will open your eyes to local culture, history and nature.
The walking trail from Kehrsatz/Kühlewil (PostBus stop Kühlewil, Heim) along the Längenberg to Mühlethurnen has multiple start and finish points which can be reached easily by public transport. It would take the average hiker around five hours to walk the full 17 km trail.
There are many “gems”, viewpoints, historical monuments, barbecue spots and restaurants to be found along the way, making a walk along the Gürbetaler Höhenweg a real treat for all.
The trail is ideal for families as it is also possible to hike along shorter, individual sections of the route. The Pfaffenloch (a cave surrounded by sandstone walls) is particularly intriguing, as are the old stove houses and beautiful old farmsteads.
Take the Postbus (route 340) from Wabern, Tram-Endstation or Kehrsatz, Bahnhof to Kühlewil, Heim.

The Pfaffenloch in Obertoffen is a cave which you are free to enter "at your own risk". You will come across the cave on the Gürbe Valley high-altitude trail. The cave is surrounded by huge sandstone walls in which birds nest and breed. Although the original water source beneath the rock, the chapel and the former spa and thermal baths have long since disappeared, the area has lost nothing of its magical allure.
