The views of the Upper Engadine are particularly beautiful here in this area, where the legendary Heidi and her friend Peter, the goat herder, once roamed. The Fuorcla Grevasalvas hiking trip is an experience not to be missed.
The trip begins with a PostBus ride heading in the direction of the Julier Pass. In La Veduta, you start walking southward through alpine meadows and between boulders to idyllic Lej Grevasalvas.
Climb a signposted but pathless trail over blocks of stone, up along the slope of the impressive Piz Lagrev to Fuorcla Grevasalvas where fantastic views open up, ranging from Lake Sils to the snow-capped peaks of the Bernina group and the craggy granite mountains of the Bergell valley. The descent takes you past the spring pastures of Grevasalvas. This well-preserved settlement served as a backdrop for the Heidi TV series in the late 1970s. The last section of the trail is especially enjoyable. It passes through a sparse larch forest to Plaun da Lej, situated right on Lake Sils.
Hiking time: approx. 4 hours
Level of difficulty: medium (in-part steep, with snowy patches until early summer)
