From the Rooterberg at the Michaelskreuz (Michael’s cross), where a hermit erected a cross at the behest of archangel Michael at an altitude of some 800 meters, you will be able to enjoy a fantastic view.
You start your hike of about three hours in Udligenswil. You cross the village and continue on field paths through the countryside to Hauetli and the Eggwald forest. Here, you can already see the peaks of Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. Above the forest, the route ascends slightly to the left to the Schiffmanshof. From here, you reach Michael’s cross and chapel in 15 minutes and enjoy a breathtaking view of the mountain ranges and the plains. An ideal spot to forget your hectic everyday life and recharge your batteries. Close by, you will find the Michaelskreuz restaurant. To return to your point of departure on forest and field paths, see the signpost at the restaurant.
Above Root, you continue on a paved road for a bit until you again reach the open fields. The train takes you back from Gisikon-Root to Lucerne.
