Take a ride on the Nufenen Pass Route across Nufenen Pass, Switzerland’s highest road at 2478 m, to the Goms Valley and enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way.
From Airolo, the Nufenen Pass Route takes you through the lovely Bedretto Valley and continues across the Nufenen Pass to Oberwald. Airolo is an ideal starting point for hiking, for example the “Strada degli alpi” to the Bedretto Valley.
For a demonstration of how cheese is made, visit the “Caseificio dimostrativo del Gottardo” dairy in Airolo (PostBus stop Airolo, Railway Station). The quiet Bedretto Valley between Gotthard and Cristallina massifs offers excellent mountaineering opportunities. Some of the classics are the “Strada degli alpi” and hiking across Cristallina Pass into Bavona Valley. If you are interested in minerals, the Bedretto Valley is a great place, where you can find genuine Ticino quartz. Nufenen is the highest mountain pass open to traffic in Switzerland and offers countless mountain biking and hiking possibilities (PostBus stop Nufenen, Summit).
The Border Tour is a special treat for seasoned mountain bikers, while hikers will enjoy the magnificent views from the loop trail across Passo del Corno or on one of the paths across Gries Pass. In the Goms Valley, the villages of Ulrichen, Obergesteln and Oberwald offer a wide variety of activities, such as cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, biking, or rafting in the upper Rhone river.
