There are many different ways to get from the Ofen Pass to Sta. Maria in the Val Müstair, but the High Route is a must for any hiker.
A gently rising marked hiking trail takes you from the summit of the Ofen Pass in north-eastern direction through a forest of larch trees and Swiss stone pines, across the meadows of Plaun da l’Aua to Alp da Munt. The path continues via Alp Champatsch to Lü. Shortly after passing the church, follow the alpine path in the direction of Urschai, Alp Sot and Craistas. From there you have unobstructed views of Sta. Maria. The path down to the village leads through sparse mountain forest. Sta. Maria is a beautiful spot to relax and unwind until you are ready to catch a Postbus for your return trip.
Hiking time: approx. 4 ½ hours
Level of difficulty: medium
