Follow the Via Panoramica trail downhill all the way to Soglio.
The PostBus from St. Moritz or from Chiavenna will drop you off conveniently in Casaccia, where you will find the beginning of the romantic “Sentiero Panoramico” trail. It leads you through lush natural surroundings and repeatedly opens up onto breathtaking views of the sun-facing side of the Bregaglia Range.
The bridge at Maira takes you to the small reservoir lake of Löbbia. The next slightly downhill section of the trail takes you to Barga, then you hike through evergreen and birch woods until reaching Roticcio, which completes the first part of the route. You pass through steep meadows and dense fir woods until Durbeggia. Here, we recommend taking a break to enjoy the incredible view over the Bondasca Valley with its mighty peaks. A narrow path takes you to your next stop in Parlongh. You emerge from a rocky wilderness to the sight of the church tower and surrounding houses of Soglio.
Just below Soglio, between Plazza and Castasegna, is Europe's largest chestnut forest. In autumn, fragrant blue-tinged smoke rises from the small huts in which the chestnuts are dried (known as "cascine"), and wafts through the thick-trunked trees with their red-gold leaves.
Hiking time: approx. 5 hours
