The Schenkenberg castle was built in the 13th century by the Habsburg dynasty. For 260 years it served as the administrative seat for the Schenkenberg bailiwick of Bern. In the 18th century it began to fall into disrepair.
Long ago, the Gisliflue used to be called Balder, after the Norse sun god, and later changed to Sandsteinfluh. Its current name relates to St. Gisela, who is said to have lived in Veltheim.
Restaurant serving regional home-cooked meals and local wine. An ideal starting or ending point for many hikes in the Schenkenberg Valley.
