Welcome to the Saas Valley – Your high alpine retreat in the Valais Alps starts here! Surrounded by eighteen four-thousand-metre peaks, a unique mountain and glacial landscape filled with adventure awaits you. Whether you want to test your limits or are looking for relaxation and leisure – you’re in the right place.
Arrival in Saas-Fee. Collect marmot feed at the Saas-Fee tourist office, then a short walk (approx. 10 mins.) to the Spielboden valley station. The modern cable car will take you up to Spielboden (2,455 m above sea level), where you can feed the tame marmots. An unforgettable experience!
Back at the Saas-Fee valley station, walk along the beautiful, wide forest trail for about 45 minutes until you get to the southern neighbouring village of Saas-Almagell. At the home of world-class ski racer Pirmin Zurbriggen, old barns, a peaceful atmosphere and a duck pond invite you to linger a while and explore.
You then continue your journey by taking the Postbus to the Mattmark Dam Reservoir, the biggest earth dam in Europe.
Here you can walk around the reservoir, or simply walk along the top of the dam. Most of the route goes along the edge of the reservoir, and is even wheelchair-accessible along the western side. You can find useful information on the information boards along the top of the dam and in the exhibition in the Mattmark restaurant.
And by the way, you can even go skiing on the glaciers at the Saas-Fee resort in the summer. This is why most ski teams around the world do their training here. But there are other ways to enjoy the Saas-Fee/Saas Valley holiday region. There are four-thousand-metre peaks, via ferratas, hiking trails and bike trails to entice you. Leisure-seekers are also met with a full programme: sun, free cable cars, a unique mountain and glacial landscape, wellness and culinary delights.
Tip: cable cars and Postbuses are included free after the first night’s stay!
