With the SaastalCard, all mountain railways (excluding Metro Alpin and summer skiing area) as well as Postbuses in the Saas Valley are included from the first night! From Saas-Grund, the Mattmark Route leads, via Saas-Almagell, to the Mattmark Dam. Saas-Grund offers a rich assortment of activities all year round. (PostBus stop - Saas-Grund, Post). Hike from here to the Saastal Valley for example, on the scenic Saaser Höhenwegen paths to Gspon and the Almagelleralp - or to the Alpine Flower Promenade with 240 different species of flower. Or make an excursion, with the whole family, to Kreuzboden and the splendid Kreuzbodensee lake and «Hohsi-Land» children’s playground along with small-animal zoo.
The Hohsaas skiing area (3100 above sea level) offers stunning views over all 18 of the surrounding 4000-meter-high-and-more peaks; and thanks to its challenging glacier pistes, represents an interesting destination even for advanced skiers and winter sport fans. The traditional Saas-Almagell village at the end of the Saastal Valley offers guests idyllic conditions for adventurous and relaxing vacations. (PostBus stop Saas-Almagell, Post). Follow the Almagellerhorn adventure path, leading over the hanging bridge and secure rocky paths to Saas-Grund.
And an excursion to Europe’s biggest natural dam, the Mattmark, is another spectacular sight it would be a pity to miss. (PostBus stop Mattmark). Take time to wander around the dam and, on Tuesdays, you can also visit the Zermeiggern power station and enjoy superb panoramic views extending as far as the Bietschhorn. Here, in the Mattmark Restaurant and on information boards on the grounds, you gather interesting information about the dam. This is also an ideal departure point for all kinds of high-alpine tours; for example to Italy via the Monte Moro - or Antrona Pass.
