Would you like to chug through a garden center in a restored steam engine? The Zulauf tree nursery in Schinznach is using its nearly 100-year-old track system for a new purpose.
The Zulauf garden center in Schinznach not only sells trees, flowers and bonsai, but also features a special attraction: the tree nursery railway. On board the nostalgic steam engine, sit back and explore the extensive garden center grounds.
The tracks of the narrow gauge railway date back to the 1930s, when heavy objects, large plants and trees were transported across the grounds in its wagons. For its hundredth anniversary, the nursery decided to bring the mothballed railway back to life. The steam train has been reliably chugging away at weekends since 1978. The restored steam engine takes around 25 minutes to complete its roughly three-kilometre-long circuit.
