Combine a pleasurable stroll in the fresh Toggenburg mountain air with a tuneful nature experience. At the foot of the Churfirsten mountain range, around 25 installations invite you to experiment with diverse sounds. The sound trail leads from the Alp Sellamatt over the lltios to Wildhaus - presenting a melodious path that can be completed in a day or in several stages for those who’d like to go slow. The first stage of the route is accessible by both wheelchairs and prams.
Taking the PostBus Churfirsten Route from Bahnhof Nesslau you reach Alt St. Johann, where the first stage of the sound path starts. Now, depending on your mood, you have the choice between an open chairlift and the enclosed gondola, which takes you to the starting point of your Alp Sellamatt adventure.
Pure hiking time from Alp Sellamatt to Ilitios is around 45 minutes. However, owing to the seven sound installations installed along the way that you are sure to want to test, you are wise to calculate at least 1.5 hours as you set forth. This 2.5 kilometer long stage is accessible by both wheelchairs and prams.
From Ilitos, the second stage leads through Oberdorf to Wildhaus. This 3.5 kilometer-long stretch requires an hour and 45 minutes pure hiking time; but once again, it’s wise to calculate twice as much - enabling you to experiment with the unique sound installations on the way.
On the way to Wildhaus you have the opportunity to take a cooling dip in the Schwendisee lakes: A great idea - accompanied by an additional four sound installations by the lakes inviting you to experiment with even more sounds. The detour to the Schwendisee lakes without a swim requires as little as an hour.
A hike along the sound trail can also start on the Illitos in Unterwasser, or in Oberdorf, Wildhaus. PostBus conveniently takes you to the starting points in the village, from where you can take a chairlift or the funicular rail to the respective mountain stations.
