Gentle hills, lush greens, scattered settlements, all joined together to form a healthy and intact landscape. The scenery and fantastic views of the Vorarlberg region and Lake Constance are among the highlights of the St. Gallen–Heiden–St. Anton–Trogen–St. Gallen tour.
There is a wide variety of adventures and excursions to choose from: a hike to Eggersrieter Höchi and on to Fünfländerblick (Five-State View) (Eggersriet, Post Office) or an enjoyable, relaxing visit to the Unterrechstein health spa (Unterrechstein, Heilbad). Heiden, situated on a sunny plateau high above Lake Constance, is another gem among all the lovely places to see in the Appenzell region. Follow in the footsteps of Red Cross founder Henry Dunant in the museum named after him, or enjoy 360-degree panoramic views of Lake Constance from the tower of Heiden’s church. The Health Trail leading all around Heiden offers information about the best natural remedies for our organism.
A highlight as far as views go is standing by St. Anton, from where you have magnificent views over Lake Constance and the Alpstein as far as the Alps of Graubünden. From here, it’s not far at all to the culture-packed village of Trogen in the Appenzell region. Here’s the spot to admire the solid stone palaces of the Zellweger dynasty on the town square, some seldom works at the cantonal library or the visitors center of the Pestalozzi Children's Village.
