In 1816, Hortense de Beauharnais, stepdaughter of Napoléon I, chose the castle as her place of exile. She expanded the estate and fitted out the magnificent salons in a stylish manner. Visitors will find out more how Hortense lived with her son Louis, who later became the last Emperor of France as Napoleon III.
