Giw – Gspon mountain trail

The Giw–Gspon mountain trail leads along the timberline from Visperterminen to Gspon, past old stone pine forests and rich Alpine flora. Along the mountain trail, you can enjoy wonderful views of the Vispertal valley and the 4,000 m-high peaks of the Weisshorn. The hike from Visperterminen to Gspon is a section of the Zermatt - Kleinwalsertal hike in Valais.

The starting point of the hike is the chairlift mountain station that takes you from Visperterminen to Giw. There is first a steep climb through the forest and then you hike across open terrain to the Gibidumpass. If you take a detour to the Gibidumsee lake, you can enjoy a wonderful swim before hiking over the Gibidumpass along the forest edge.

Once you reach the highest point of the hike, the Sädolti, you then begin the descent towards Gspon. Gspon is not only a car-free mountain village, but is also known for having the highest football pitch in Europe.
