Flims is situated on a sunny plateau high above the Rhine Gorge. There are more than 330 kilometres of mountain bike trails and over 250 kilometres of hiking trails leading up to countless lookout points with spectacular views of the Graubünden mountain landscape. A historic fixed rope route, playgrounds, an observatory, Alpine meadows and bathing lakes make this an interesting and varied day-trip or holiday destination for the whole family. The Flims Grosswald forest is one of the largest forest areas in Graubünden, a must for nature lovers, while Lake Cauma with its turquoise waters and picturesque coves is reminiscent of a Mediterranean beach.
Between Ilanz and Reichenau, the Rhine has spent the last 10,000 years scouring its way through the rocky debris left by the Flims landslide, creating a gorge fondly known as the "Swiss Grand Canyon." Surrounded by pine forest, the bizarre rock formations fascinate hikers, train passengers and river rafters from across the world.
