FLUX 2017: Château-d’Oex named «Golden Transport Hub»

This year, the jury of the “FLUX – Golden Transport Hub” prize examined tourist transfer hubs with metre-gauge tracks. Château-d’Oex has come out on top: PostBus, the Swiss Association of Public Transport (APT) and the Swiss Association for Transport and Environment (ATE) presented the municipality in Vaud with the FLUX 2017 prize. Arosa (canton of Graubünden) and Innertkirchen (canton of Berne) were also considered for this coveted Swiss public transport award. 

After 20 years as Head of PostBus: Daniel Landolf takes early retirement

Daniel Landolf, Head of PostBus Ltd and Member of Executive Management at Swiss Post has decided, after 20 years as Head of the PostBus Group unit, to take early retirement and dedicate himself in future to various directorships at a strategic level and to private projects. He will be taking early retirement on 30 April 2018.

Self-driving shuttles soon to link old town with Sion train station

The operation of self-driving shuttles in Sion will be extended and the route expanded. The City of Sion, the Canton of Valais and PostBus agreed upon this extension. The Federal Roads Office (FEDRO) has given the green light to the route to be extended as far as the train station. Thus, PostBus continues operating this worldwide unique service of autonomous buses on public roads.

New adventure trail on the steepest PostBus route

In the summer of 2018, an adventure trail, honouring the elements earth, water, air and fire, will open up between Griesalp and Kiental. One of the attractions the joint project of Kiental-Reichenbach Tourism and PostBus will offer is a viewing platform.

Initial study indicates public acceptance for self-driving buses

PostBus is presenting its first acceptance study on automated driving in Switzerland. It shows that those who have already travelled in a self-driving Postbus have more confidence in the technology, and many even wish there were more of these types of bus on the road. Alongside the SmartShuttles project on public roads, PostBus is to gather further experience on a test area in Berne. Swiss Post is promoting the mobility solutions of tomorrow with targeted innovation projects.

First electric Postbus to be used on scheduled routes

PostBus is to operate a vehicle in Interlaken which is entirely powered by electricity. The electric Postbus will be used on scheduled routes in the Interlaken region. The deployment is part of a three-year project. PostBus will use only renewable energy to recharge the battery.

New cabriolet Postbus hits the road

After a gap of over 40 years, PostBus again has a cabriolet in its vehicle fleet. Eight metres long, the retractable-roof Postbus can seat 20 people and is fitted out like a touring coach. The cabriolet is a travelling symbol of the new partnership between PostBus and the Swiss Hiking Trail Federation which was launched today in Chur.

First anniversary of the SmartShuttles

One year after the inauguration of the world’s first SmartShuttles on public roads, PostBus and its Mobility Lab partners (City of Sion, Canton of Valais, EPFL, HES-SO Valais-Wallis and Swiss Post) can look back on a positive launch. The population of Sion and the numerous tourists who tested the self-driving buses have reacted positively to this new transport solution. The yellow shuttles also arouse considerable interest among the research community, in companies and among the local authorities. 

First Postbuses from the United Kingdom

By the end of next year, no fewer than 19 new double-decker Postbuses will come into service in Eastern Switzerland. They are produced in the United Kingdom for PostBus – a first of its kind. PostBus is presenting the first of these vehicles to the media in Engelburg today, and to the local population on 20 May.

SmartShuttles transport visitors in Hanover

The world’s first SmartShuttle is already operating on the streets of Sion. PostBus has now procured two additional autonomous vehicles and will be deploying them at CeBIT in Hanover from 20 to 24 March: The SmartShuttles will transport visitors at the world’s biggest IT fair.
