The SmartShuttles in Sion were a world premiere: 54,000 passengers were safely transported in and around Sion city center from 2016 to 2019. In a follow-up project in the Sion district of Uvrier, the SmartShuttles were not only autonomous but also “on-demand”. In 2021, PostBus launched another world-first in Saas-Fee: the luggage robot “Robi”. For the first time, an autonomous vehicle was used in Swiss public transport without a safety driver. Just one teleoperator monitored the vehicle remotely.
From this pioneering position, PostBus co-founded the Swiss Association for Autonomous Mobility (SAAM) and runs its offices. For the first time, all key Swiss stakeholders in this field are united under one roof and are working together to integrate autonomous vehicles into road traffic as efficiently as possible.

PostBus is a co-founder of the Swiss Association for Autonomous Mobility (SAAM) and runs its offices. SAAM members have recognized that it makes sense to share experiences and expertise with one another. It allows synergies to be used to integrate autonomous vehicles into road traffic as broadly and efficiently as possible. Already on board are 24 of the most important Swiss stakeholders from public transport, motorized private transport, industry and research in the field of autonomous driving, and more will follow. Alongside PostBus, they include EPFL, SBB, Mobility, AMAG, BERNMOBIL, Siemens, Mobility Lab, TCS, ASTAG and Zurich Public Transport, to name but a few.

“Robi”, the luggage robot in Saas-Fee
An automated vehicle without a safety driver is operating in public transport for the first time in Saas-Fee. The luggage robot “Robi” can be ordered by app, transports customer luggage and follows the customer to their destination at a walking pace.
