Travelling with a dog

Useful information

Dogs and other small animals up to a shoulder height of 30 cm can be transported free of charge using public transport in suitable containers such as cages or baskets.

In all other cases, you will need a 2nd class ticket. You can purchase this at a reduced rate.

Please keep your dog on a leash while in vehicles or at bus stops or leave it in the transport container.

If you are travelling with a dog that is outside its transport box, the dog must sit under your seat. Aisles must remain unobstructed for other passengers.

Tickets

With the Day Pass Dogs or the Dog Pass, you can take your four-legged friend with you without any worries.

For dogs of all sizes, which are carried in passenger carriages or luggage vans, you pay the 2nd class half fare or the stipulated minimum fare if applicable (Day Pass Dogs, Dog Pass).

Detailed information and the option to purchase tickets online can be found at Travelling with dogs | SBB.

In order for a guide dog to travel with you on a Postbus free of charge, you need a Disabled Passenger’s ID Card. You can request your ID card from the SBB.
