189 million passengers travelled by Postbus

A passenger record at PostBus: in 2025, 189 million people travelled on its 2,390 Postbuses. On 942 routes, the Postbuses covered a distance equivalent to 10 times around the Earth per day. There are more and more e-Postbuses and depots geared towards e-mobility. And at the end of 2025, the “AmiGo” service with autonomous vehicles was launched in Eastern Switzerland.

The tragic fire in Kerzers continues to be a major cause of concern for PostBus. On 10 March 2026, the worst event in the company’s history to date resulted in the death of six people, including the Postbus driver. Five other people were injured. “One month after this disaster, we are still deeply affected and it is part of our everyday lives,” says Stefan Regli, CEO of PostBus. The performance figures usually published in March took a back seat. We are pleased to submit them in this press release.

Strong demand in the leisure sector

All Postbuses combined covered 145 million kilometres last year (2024: 140 million), the equivalent of travelling 10 times around the Earth every day. They serve 942 routes (950) and provide connections to 11,481 stops (11,339). The route network measures 17,889 kilometres (17,689). There were once again record passenger numbers: 189.2 million people travelled by Postbus, 3.3 percent more than in the previous year (183 million). They rated service quality at 79 out of 100 points (previous year: 78). The strongest growth in demand was once again in the leisure sector. 5,500 drivers from PostBus and PostBus companies transport passengers throughout Switzerland. PostBus employs 3,664 staff (3,438) and has 3,139 full-time equivalents (2,937).

Electrification of fleet and depots continues apace

At the end of 2025, 166 of the 2,390 Postbuses were fully electric. Since last year, larger networks have been served mainly by electric Postbuses from the following locations: Sion (VS), Laupen (BE), Interlaken (BE), Winkel (ZH), Bellinzona (TI), Sempach (LU) and Engelburg (SG). By the end of 2026, more than 100 e-Postbuses will be added – the biggest expansion to date within a year. The vehicles will be used in places including Oberbüren (SG), Remetschwil (AG), Möhlin (AG), Gelterkinden (BL), Triengen (LU) and Mendrisio (TI). Over the next few years, PostBus will convert its entire fleet to electric drive technology. So far, there are more than 200 charging points in around 30 depots throughout Switzerland.

AmiGo to offer autonomous mobility through Eastern Switzerland

From 2027, it is planned that 25 autonomous PostBus vehicles will operate in Eastern Switzerland. The routes are currently being mapped, and from summer 2026, accompanied journeys will be carried out with test customers. With AmiGo, customers will be able to book fully autonomous on-demand journeys via the app in the first quarter of 2027. A control center will monitor operations. The service is supported by the Federal Office of Transport (FOT) and the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO), the cantons of St. Gallen, Appenzell Ausserrhoden, Appenzell Innerrhoden and Thurgau, Touring Club Switzerland (TCS) and other partners. PostBus’s technology partner is the company Baidu Apollo, which now operates more than a thousand autonomous vehicles worldwide.
