The grand Italian painter, Giovanni Segantini, spent the last years of his life in Engadine. And the Alps were constantly a popular theme in his works; for which he was honoured, in 1908, with the founding of the Segantini Museum in St. Moritz. Here, many of his works can be admired.

Hotel Palazzo Salis in Soglio in the Bergell Valley immediately catches the eye. Built in 1630 by a nobleman, there is still an historic air about it. It is also part of the Swiss Historic Hotels. A lovely garden and an elegant restaurant add to the experience.

The peculiar architectural blend between Moorish and Gothic elements makes this striking palace unique. A museum inside illustrates the life of the Bergell emigrants who became famous confectioners throughout Europe.
