The St. Moritz–Maloja–Castasegna–Chiavenna (Maloja–Bergell/Bregaglia Route) takes you through the Upper Engadine and Bergell valleys to Chiavenna in Italy. Enjoy this trip full of cultural and natural opposites and the many attractions you will find along the way.
Discover the Engadine lake plateau, the spectacular Bergell Valley and the town of Chiavenna in Italy on the St. Moritz–Maloja–Castasegna–Chiavenna (Maloja–Bergell/Bregaglia Route) (note: a passport or identity card is required to cross the border). The famous resort of St. Moritz offers first-class hotels and exclusive shopping. Take a romantic carriage ride to experience the breathtaking scenery of the Engadine lake plateau and stop at the Nietzsche House in Sils (PostBus stop Sils/Segl Maria, Post Office). Adventures for the whole family, scenic mountain lakes and many glacier mills await you in the family-friendly holiday destination of Maloja (PostBus stop Maloja, Post Office). The top of Maloja Pass marks the crossover into the Bergell Valley, home of the Giacometti family of artists. Giovanni Segantini’s work was also inspired by the beautiful scenery of the Bergell. Visit the Ciäsa Granda museum and Palazzo Castelmur in Stampa to learn about the culture of this region (PostBus stop Stampa, Post Office). From Promontogno, you can take a side trip to the picturesque village of Soglio (PostBus stop Promontogno, Post Office). The Bergell Valley can be explored on foot on the historic Maloja–Castasegna hiking trail. Near the village of Castasegna is a beautiful chestnut forest with an interesting educational path (PostBus stop Castasegna, Vecchia Dogana). The market town of Chiavenna is a perfect place to relax under a palm tree (PostBus stop Chiavenna, Railway Station).
