AmiGo project update summer 2026

AmiGo is now operating in automated mode on public roads. Following mapping runs and a series of successful tests, the vehicles are on the road with safety drivers who can take control at any time.

At the media event, media representatives and regional stakeholders were able to test automated operations for the first time.

AmiGo granted FEDRO permit

AmiGo has reached a milestone: the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO) has granted an exemption for the operation of automated vehicles at level 4. Since 1 June 2026, the vehicles in Eastern Switzerland have been on the road in automated mode with safety drivers on board during testing.

The new role of safety driver

Automated mobility brings new job profiles, such as that of safety drivers who are behind the wheel during the initial phase of operation and are ready to intervene at any time if the situation requires it.

AmiGo gets to know its surroundings

To operate AmiGo, a digital map of all routes in the service area was created using “mapping runs”.

Safety first

On the Hinwil test site of project partner TCS, the vehicle’s correct behaviour was tested and validated. Passing the “FEDRO basic test” was a prerequisite for obtaining the exemption.

AmiGo at RHEMA

Visitors to the Rheintalmesse were able to gain an initial impression of the AmiGo project and see the vehicles for themselves.

Advancing automated mobility in Switzerland together

At a conference of the Swiss Association for Autonomous Mobility (SAAM), the project team exchanged views with various stakeholders on the development of automated mobility in Switzerland.
