Various vehicles have WiFi. To use the service, you need to complete a one-off registration in the Postbus on your smartphone, laptop or tablet PC.

PostBus has equipped over 1,900 vehicles nationwide with free WiFi. WiFi is mainly found in Postbuses in areas with good network coverage. Due to the topography and the resulting poorer network coverage, Postbuses operating in mountain regions are either not equipped at all or only marginally equipped.

You can recognize a Postbus equipped with WiFi by the WiFi symbol, which is affixed on the vehicle’s exterior next to the doors and in the interior of the vehicle.

Internet access on public transport is a genuine customer requirement. PostBus is the first Swiss public transport company to meet these requirements. This reduces the perceived travel time and enhances the travel experience for passengers.

PostBus is optimizing the circulation of buses in such a way that they operate with minimum fuel consumption and as few empty journeys as possible. This helps to keep public transport costs low.

This may be the case and is for technical reasons. WiFi in Postbuses accesses the UMTS antenna like your smartphone and then distributes the signal in the Postbus. If multiple passengers access the WiFi at the same time, the bandwidth available is split between these users.

The quality of reception depends on the network coverage of the mobile phone network. An impairment of the surfing speed or an interruption of the connection cannot be ruled out at certain points. PostBus therefore recommends that you do not use any services that require a stable Internet connection via WiFi in Postbuses (e.g. software updates on smartphones). PostBus assumes no liability for damages resulting from a variable Internet connection.

1. Connect to the “PostAuto/CarPostal/AutoPostale” WiFi in the Postbus.
2. The registration page is then displayed in the browser. Here you must register your device (mobile phone, tablet, laptop, etc.). Complete the required fields.
3. When first using the WiFi, an authorization code will be sent to you via SMS. Once you have entered this code on the registration page, your device will be authorized to use the WiFi. Please be aware that you must register each individual device on which you want to use WiFi.
4. After the initial registration, your device will be automatically recognized on all equipped Postbuses once you connect to the WiFi.

NOTE:Despite the initial registration, you must still log in to the WiFi before each use. This is very simple: once you have connected your device to the WiFi, the WiFi landing page will open in your browser (Safari, Chrome, Firefox, etc.) Once there, press on “Surf now”. It’s as simple as that. An authorization code is no longer required.

You only need to enter a valid mobile phone number. The hardware address (MAC address) of your mobile device is also automatically saved. It allows us to recognize your device so that you can conveniently reconnect to our WiFi once you have registered for the first time.

The data is stored on the backend server and the server will recognize the device again when you log in to the WiFi network several days in a row. The data is stored in accordance with the applicable data protection guidelines. It will not be passed on to third parties. An exception to this is criminal investigations. If criminal irregularities occur on the WiFi in the Postbus, the authorities can order the monitoring of selected users. In this case, PostBus is obliged to provide the criminal law authorities with information about data traffic.

For statistical purposes, PostBus collects data on the use of WiFi in Postbuses, such as the number of accesses per vehicle or the volume of data generated. This data is anonymized and not broken down across individual users. Data from individual users is only recorded on behalf of a law enforcement authority and delivered to the relevant authority.

If such activities are reported by a criminal justice authority, the first step is to block the device in question. As you register with your mobile number and each mobile phone is registered with the relevant provider containing all of the owner’s address details, the person responsible can also be called on at the request of a criminal law authority.

Access is free of charge for PostBus passengers. PostBus bears the costs as a value-added service for its customers.

PostBus suppresses access to offensive content on its WiFi. It is also not recommended to use WiFi to download larger files, to carry out software updates on mobile phones or to use streaming services that cause large volumes of data (e.g. television via the Internet). PostBus reserves the right to exclude such services from use if necessary.

No, registration can only be carried out in Postbuses equipped with WiFi.

PostBus does not provide any technical support for WiFi in Postbuses. If you think the WiFi is not working, please report this to the driver. A potential defect will be forwarded to the relevant department.

WiFi in Postbuses is a public WiFi network. As in other public networks, communication connections can be intercepted here without appropriate protective measures. PostBus assumes no liability for damage (see GTC). Please protect your end device (smartphone, tablet, laptop) and your data with appropriate security measures, e.g. by using anti-virus programmes and a firewall.

The problem may be that you did not log in. In order to use WiFi in Postbuses, you must log in via the landing page every time you use it. To do so, open your browser after you have connected to the WiFi. By typing in any web address, you will automatically be taken to the landing page where you can log in again. Most Internet providers block port 25, which is intended for mailing, by default. This is to reduce spam. This problem can usually be avoided by using port 587 for mailing. Please make sure that you have connected to WiFi on the Postbus via the landing page. Every time you travel, you need to log in to the WiFi using your browser (Safari, Chrome, Internet Explorer). To do so, go to any website and then press the “Surf now” button. 

Please note the symbol marked red. This means that while your device is connected to WiFi, you have not logged in. Open your browser and access any homepage to register/log in. 

You can register your tablet by entering your mobile number on the registration page and receiving the SMS code on your mobile phone. Use your tablet to access the registration page and enter your mobile number. Enter the code that was sent to you by SMS on the following page.

No. WiFi with outdoor antennas causes less radiation than mobile phone use in buses. The transmission power of WLAN is significantly lower than that of GSM (WLAN with a maximum transmission power of 100 mW, GSM with a maximum transmission power of 2,000 mW on the mobile). The radiation in the vehicle is reduced by accessing the WiFi and not the GSM antenna. More information can be found on the website of the Federal Office of Public Health.
