Central Alps Passes: Gotthard–Nufenen–Furka Pass Route
Andermatt–Gotthard–Airolo–Nufenen–Oberwald–Gletsch–Furka–Andermatt
On the Gotthard–Nufenen–Furka Pass-Route you’re presented views of the majestic Alps in all their glory. Enjoy a 1-day trip, with no change of transport, from Andermatt over three of the most spectacular mountain passes, and witness the capturing beauty of the surrounding mountain world.
The Gotthard–Nufenen–Furka Pass route takes you on countless hairpin bends: starting in Andermatt, it crosses three of the most beautiful alpine passes and then returns to the starting point of your journey.
You reach the Gotthard, known as the “King of Passes”, via an impressive mountain road offering views of the historic route (Postbus stop: Gotthard Pass).
At the top of the pass, experience the futuristic themed areas in Sasso San Gottardo and the historic Gotthard fortress. Discover the Gotthard myth! A Swiss army artillery fortress that was top secret until just a few years ago is located deep inside the mountain. Once an impenetrable fortress that entered the history books as the National Redoubt, the site is now home to an unforgettable world exploring sustainability and the myth of Switzerland. Make your way down into the historic fortress on the underground ‘Metro del Sasso’. Experience history up close in the gun chambers, munitions magazines and dormitory spaces located deep inside the rock. A tunnel takes you out into the open, from where you can enjoy a view of the magical mountain landscape from a surprising perspective.
The Gotthard region also offers hiking trails with outstanding views, such as a section of the ViaPostaAlpina or the Four Springs Trail.
On the Nufenen Pass, you will have enough time to enjoy the incredible view (Postbus stop ‘Nufenen Pass’). At 2,478 metres above sea level, this is the highest alpine crossing in Switzerland and is accessible to vehicles.
The journey continues through Valais and along the Furka Pass road, heading past the Rhône Glacier.
On the Furka Pass, a breathtaking view of the Saint-Gotthard Massif and the Urseren Valley awaits you.
Due to construction and renovation work, the Hotel Glacier-du-Rhône in Gletsch is currently closed. Catering options and toilet facilities are only available to a limited extent. For this reason, we recommend taking your own food and drink.
